Sebagian besar orang akan melakukan cara-cara konvensional untuk melakukan subnetting, sebagian besar caranya adalah mengubah alamat IP ke binary. Untuk akademisi cara terebut memang sangat bagus, tetapi untuk mengikuti test CCNA, cara konvensional tersebut terkadang memakan waktu yang lama bagi yang tidak terbiasa dengannya.

Melalui tutorial ini saya akan menjelaskan tentang konsep “Kelipatan“. Dengan metode kelipatan ini kita tidak perlu mengubah alamat IP ke binary dan hanya mengerjakannya dalam domain desimal.

Apakah yang disebut kelipatan (k)??

Kelipatan adalah bilangan dengan basis dua yang kadang disebut kelipatan host atau kelipatan network. Kelipatan dapat dituliskan sebagai  2ⁿ dimana n adalah selisih antara total bit dengan jumlah bit network mask(prefix-length).

Sebagai contoh alamat IP : 192.168.1.2/30, mempunyai total bit 32 dan prefix length 30, sehingga :

n = 32 – 30 = 2

k  = 2² = 4

Cara menggunakan kelipatan(k)

Kelipatan bisa digunakan untuk menentukan alamat network (ip subnet, alamat broadcast(ip broadcast), jumlah host,  penentuan wildcard dengan mekanisme operasi di setiap octet.  Alamat IP version 4 terdiri dari 4 oktet. Untuk menentukan kelipatan bekerja di octet yang mana, dapat dilihat dari prefix length yang digunakan.

Netmask         = 256 – k, tergantung octet dimana kelipatan bekerja

Jumlah host    = 2ⁿ-2

IP  subnet       = kelipatan terdekat k dengan decimal pada octet

IP broadcast   = IP subnet + k – 1, tergantung octet dimana kelipatan bekerja

Wildcard         = k -1, tergantung octet dimana kelipatan bekerja

Contoh  1 :

Diketahui  alamat IP 10.1.1.40/28. Tentukan :

1. Netmask
2. Jumlah host
3. IP subnet
4. IP broadcast
5. Wildcard

Jawab :

Dari prefix length 28 dapat diketahui bahwa kelipatan bekerja di octet ke-4.

n = total bit – prefix length = 32 – 28 = 4,

k = 2ⁿ = 2⁴ = 16,

1. Netmask  = 256 – k = 256 – 16 = 240, sehingga Netmask = 255.255.255.240
2. Jumlah host = 2ⁿ – 2 = 16 – 2 = 14
3. IP Subnet = kelipatan dari k yang terdekat dengan decimal pada octet = kelipatan dari 16 yang terdekat dengan 40 = 32, IP Subnet = 10.1.1.32
4. IP Broadcast = 32 + 16 – 1 = 47,  IP Broadcast = 10.1.1.47
5. Wildcard = k -1 = 16 -  1 = 15, sehingga IP address diatas dapat dituliskan dalam bentuk wildcard menjadi 10.1.1.32 0.0.0.15

Contoh 2 :

Diketahui  alamat IP 192.168.40.1/20. Tentukan :

1. Netmask
2. Jumlah host
3. IP subnet
4. IP broadcast
5. Wildcard

Jawab :

Dari prefix length 20 dapat diketahui bahwa kelipatan bekerja di octet ke-3. Disini ada dua n, yaitu :

n₁ = total bit – prefix length = 32 – 20 = 12,

n₂ = total bit pada octet yang berdekatan  – prefix length  = 24 – 20 = 4

k = 2ⁿ² = 2⁴ = 16,

1. Netmask  = 256 – k = 256 – 16 = 240, sehingga Netmask = 255.255.240.0
2. Jumlah host = 2ⁿ¹ – 2 = 2¹² – 2 = 4096 – 2 = 4094
3. IP Subnet = kelipatan dari k yang terdekat dengan decimal pada octet = kelipatan dari 16 yang terdekat dengan 40 = 32, IP Subnet = 192.168.32.0
4. IP Broadcast = 32 + 16 – 1 = 47, IP Broadcast = 192.168.47.255
5. Wildcard = k -1 = 16 -  1 = 15, sehingga IP address diatas dapat dituliskan dalam bentuk wildcard menjadi 192.168.32.0 0.0.15.255
